Seneca Waste Solutions has been providing environmentally safe waste removal and disposal in the Midwest for many years. Customers have come to rely on the ability of Seneca to mobilize specialized equipment with professional highly trained project managers and environmental technicians.

Seneca was contacted by a confidential agricultural chemical producer located in the Midwest to manage a project. This is a client that Seneca has successfully managed on-site projects for in the past.

The project required Seneca to directly oversee and perform the plant’s post turnaround (TA) waste cleanup and the transportation and disposal of 140,000 gallons of ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate solution water mix. This waste stream was contained in ten on-site 21,000-gallon frac tanks. The waste stream was produced from the plants cleaning of heat exchangers, production vessels and exterior surfaces of equipment used to manufacture ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate.

The project required Seneca to: 

  • Provide a site-specific confined space rescue plan.
  • Give client employee training records for all.
  • On-site Seneca 40-hour HAZWOPER and confined space entry.
  • Attendance at plant-specific on-site training.
  • Conduct lock-out tag-out verification walk-through and job safety analysis.
  • Have Tool Box briefings.
  • Obtain and ensure all required permits were completed.
  • Attend plant briefings, shift meetings.
  • Pre-position all equipment to plant site-specific location needed to perform project operation.

Seneca began the process of transferring of the ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate solution/water mix into 5,000-gallon tankers for transportation and disposal. 

As each frac tank became empty, confined space entry was performed and then finally cleaning/power washing and vacuuming of the 10 frac tanks. Other tasks were added or deleted as approved by the designated site contact by way of a detailed change order. Seneca ensured that all wastes were disposed of in an environmentally compliant manner. 

The project was completed with safety as the highest priority.
