Scope
Seneca Companies Des Moines Fuel Systems division was hired to a complete Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) replacement and fuel system upgrade at Saylorville Lake Marina in the Des Moines metro area.

In early April, the marina team reached out after discovering that their existing 10,000-gallon AST had become compromised, with fuel leaking into the interstitial space. Recognizing the urgency, the Seneca team quickly got to work. The existing tank was removed on April 1 and by April 8, a new 8,000-gallon Hughes Tank was installed.

In conjunction with the new tank, our team installed a Morrison Brothers remote fill box, tank monitoring equipment (OPW progauge, OPW probe and OPW interstitial sensor) and all tank top equipment. Our remediation team welded a custom 3-inch fill pipe for the site. Upon completion, the new AST was fully operational, allowing the marina to resume fueling boaters.

In the second phase of the project, the Seneca team completed the installation of new aboveground fuel piping from the shoreline transition sump to a newly constructed dock. This included replacing the marina’s old dispensers with two new Dover Fueling Solutions® dispensers, fully integrated into the updated fuel system. The new dispensers support the marina’s expanded fueling capabilities and complement the addition of the new dock and dockside restaurant.

Challenges
The Seneca team was faced with the challenge of an expedited timeline in order to keep the site running smoothly. Through proactive communication and collaboration, the team was able to work with several vendors to acquire materials ahead of normal lead time.
